The art of not taking pictures

“A picture is worth a thousand words”. Or so they say.

But is it really?

Sunsets. Music shows. Breakfast. Seems like everything and anything needs to be photographed these days.

We get it, you went to the gym. Good for you!

It’s almost as if things need to be photographed to prove some point. And we’re not even trying to prove it to ourselves, but to someone we probably don’t even know, half-way across the world, that might stumble upon our Instagram feed.

At this point in time, I find it harder not to take pictures of everything than otherwise. Somehow I feel like the weird one for not photographing every single aspect of my life (and myself, for that matter) and creating some sort of autobiographical fake fairy-tale for everyone to see.

This guy makes a pretty good point about this with his photography. If you haven’t yet, please take a look at Martin Parr’s work.
